We’re talking about us, episode 2: Victor Luchart, Commercial expedition
19 April 2024
As part of our drive to help you discover our businesses and, above all, the men and women who work in them, today we’re turning the spotlight on our “dispatch” business by giving the floor to Victor Luchart, a dispatch salesman at Lagache for the last two and a half years.
A testimonial full of energy, desire and passion from a young man who is living his profession to the full!
Ever since he was a little boy, Victor has dreamed of doing a job that would connect him with the world of producers. He wanted to have his own farm, with field crops, but not coming from a farming background, he quickly realised that this wasn’t the best option. But he’ll find other options.
He studied at the ISA (Institut Supérieur Agricole), which certainly opened up some exciting horizons for him. With his engineering degree in hand, he spent a few months working in a F&V shop that promoted short distribution channels. The relationship he had with the producers confirmed his desire to go down this route, but the shop’s difficulties in finding consumers showed him that his place was perhaps not in retail.
As a student, he had done a work placement with a fresh F&V shipper, which he particularly enjoyed. So it wasn’t by chance that he applied to Lagache for the post of dispatch salesman – the opportunity was ideal for him.
For almost three years, he has been serving a clientele of wholesalers and central purchasing agencies. Every morning, his aim is to get them on the phone, discuss the market situation with them, understand their needs, and find the best solutions to reconcile his customers’ expectations with what producers have to offer. It’s a sort of mediator’s role. The challenge is to find the right compromise between protecting producers’ remuneration and offering customers the right price.
Victor is clearly in his element! He loves the variety of tasks and the cross-functional nature of his job, which allows him to get a good ‘feel’ for the market and be involved in both buying and selling. “I’m in contact with everyone and I’m right in the middle of the marketing chain.
He also likes the way things work. You never know what’s going to happen, you’re up against the competition head-on, you have to have a competitive spirit, and that stress stimulates me”. As for off-farm purchasing, he enjoys connecting upstream with downstream.
Victor has no routine! He learns every day. For example, when he first arrived, he didn’t know about certain products. Today, some of them can be sold on a regular basis. Victor feels useful and is delighted to be part of Lagache’s sales drive, as well as sharing his good humour and enthusiasm with his teams.
He is proud to work for Lagache and feels at home here, which is why in a few words:
#business development
#team building
