Spotlight on a key role at Lagache: order pickers!

22 January 2026

At Lagache, quality doesn’t stop with the choice of fruit and vegetables. It also comes into play, every day, in the shop and at the key moment of order preparation. It’s an essential job, carried out by a team of 7 order-pickers, coordinated by Ludovic.

A job based on common sense, high standards and pragmatism
Being an order picker means first and foremost ensuring that the shop looks good, is clean and pleasant. It’s all about showcasing products, making sure there’s nothing lying around, and coming up with specific ideas for highlighting products at special times like Christmas or Valentine’s Day.
“We make suggestions, we discuss them together and everyone helps to put them into practice,” explains Ludovic. The aim is always the same: to bring the floor to life and encourage people to discover the products.

Then comes the heart of the job: order preparation.
The sales assistant sells the goods, issues the delivery note… and the order preparers take over from there. Nothing is left to chance: the quantities must be right, the products must be right, the pallets must be solid and well stacked.
The most important thing is to “get a pallet off to a good start”, explains Ludovic. The parcels are of different sizes, none of them must protrude, and organisation on the pallet is key. Logic, pragmatism and experience make all the difference. The pallet is then carefully shrink-wrapped and ready to go, with the guarantee that the fruit and vegetables will travel in the best possible conditions.

A key issue for customer satisfaction
If a good product arrives damaged, it fails to live up to its promise. Order pickers therefore play a decisive role in the quality perceived by customers. Even if they are not salespeople, they know their customers, their habits and their expectations.
“Some customers even ask for a particular order picker. It’s a sign of trust, but above all it’s the result of a solid relationship. In the team, we’re all very professional, with the same aim: to satisfy our customers”, Ludovic emphasises.

What’s important?
A job well done, smoothly and as part of a team: a well-kept shop, orders prepared meticulously and customers with confidence. At Lagache, order pickers are key players in the day-to-day operation, discreet but indispensable, serving quality right down to the last link in the chain.
